Helambu trek is one of the shortest and nearest treks from Kathmandu. It is situated directly north of Kathmandu and rises up to an elevation of 3650m.
With Helambu trek, you will experience the culture and lifestyle of Hyolmo community and visit many beautiful Buddhist monasteries. The trekking trail follows terraced farms, green valleys and dense forests of oak, rhododendrons while offering majestic views of Langtang and Ganesh Himalayan ranges.
Sundarijal, Tharepati, Melamchi valley, Tarkeghyang, Shermathang are some of well-known crossing points for this trek.
On your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be greeted with flower garlands/Khadas. Our representative will then take you to your hotel. If time prevails, you will visit office for paperwork. Stay overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.
Today, you will visit popular world heritage monuments in Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, Swoyambhunath, and Pashupatinath. Alternatively, you can choose Bhakatapur and Patan sightseeing. By late afternoon you will drive back to your hotel. Stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Early morning drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal (1350m.) takes about one hour. Then trek to Chisapani via Mulkharka village passing through the forest of oaks and rhododendron. Stay overnight at lodge.
After breakfast trek from Chisapani to Kutumsang (2446m.) takes about seven hours. The trail gradually drops from Chisapani and goes past Pati Bhanjyang to climb a pass at 2620m. Stay overnight at lodge.
Trek from Kutumsang to Melamchi Gaon (2640m) via Tharepati Pass (3650m.) takes about seven and half hours. The trek follows through beautiful rhododendron, oak forest before coming on to Tharepati which is a great view point to catch breathtaking views of Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shankar, Langshisa, Jugal, Numbur and many others. Stay overnight at lodge.
Trek from Melamchi Gaon to Tarkeghyang (2743m.) takes about six hours. The trail descends all the way Melamchi Khola before ascending gradually to Tarkeghyang. Tarkeghyang is home to Hyolmo community and their unique Buddhist culture. Stay overnight at lodge.
Trek from Tarkeghyang to Shermathang (2590m) takes about five hours. The trek travels through forested path, up and down till you reach Shermathang. In the middle of forest Shermathang is a Sherpa settlement. From Shermathang you can view the Langtang Himalayan range. Stay overnight at lodge.
Trek from Shermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (846m.) takes approximately 4 hours and drive back to Kathmandu which takes about 5 hours.
The trail gradually descends all the way to Melamchi Pul Bazaar through meadows and cultivated fields. On the way, you come across several old villages. This day you will be greeted by pleasant views of mountains and also get to interact with local and friendly people. Afterwards take a short drive back to Kathmandu from Melamchi Pul Bazaar. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.
