Overview And Highlights

Tsum ValleyTrek offers crystal clear views of Manaslu, Sringi and Ganesh Himal ranges. The highest point of the trek is Ngula Dhojhyang Pass at 5093m.

Tsum Valley is one of the few unexplored trekking routes in the Himalayas, lying close to Tibet. Referred to as ‘Beyul Kyimolung’, or the ‘holy hidden valley of happiness’, it is one of the most sacred Buddhist places in the Himalayan region. Tsum Valley was opened for trekking as recent as 2007.

Tsum is a name derived from the Tibetan word ‘Tsombo’, which means ‘vivid’ or ‘lively’. History has it that Tsum was once part of thirteen provinces called ‘Tsum Tso Chucksums’. The people of Tsum Valley are called Tsum who practice Buddhism.

In fact Buddhism began to flourish in the area with the arrival of Guru Padmasambhava (Saint Milarepa) who is said to have meditated in surrounding caves. The relics of those eras can still be found in the region including numerous ancient chortens, maniwalls and monasteries or gumbas. Rachen Gumba and Mu Gumba are perhaps the most important Gumbas in the region with thriving communities of monks and nuns. A visit to famous Kyimu Lung, a center of learning and meditation, is another attraction.
